It’s an important question to ask yourself now and then — to check in and assess where you are and where you want to be. Today, I would like to share with you some tips to get started.
It’s essential to spend your time doing something meaningful that you love and are good at, for your health, strength, relationships, well-being and business success. You’re happier doing what you’re naturally good at, the tasks or work that feel more like playing than working.
Over time your interests can change or develop, your needs and responsibilities shift. Maybe you start a family, want to take time off, grow your business, leave your job to start your own gig, or you want a flexible schedule.
When you are busy, you may feel disconnected from others at home and the office. Until you shift that perspective to being a team, until you begin to realign your actions with your priorities, you will compromise one or more of the significant areas of your life, without even realizing it.
It’s important then to review where you’re at, where you want to be going and what you’ll need to get there. Some people do this at the end of the year, some do it around their birthday or others look at the start of a school year.
Below are things to consider when you do this review and ask yourself, What do I want to do next?
How to decide what to do next. The answer is found in the questions you ask.
“The quality of your life is determined by the quality of the questions you ask!” ~ Tony Robbins
Start by asking yourself the following questions, perhaps recording your responses in a journal. Find a time when you won’t be disturbed and write what comes up for you.
1. Think about your interests — What would you do all day that you would lose track of time doing? 2. What are your unique abilities, those talents that come naturally for you? 3. Think back to childhood — what did you want to be when you grew up? 4. What are your favorite activities or moments with your best friends or family? (Often, this will let you know what your natural abilities are, which can be hard to see in yourself. If that is the case, talk this through with a close friend or mentor.) 5. What are things you have always wanted to do but never had the chance? How would you finish this statement: “If I had the time, I would…?”
Keep in mind this is not a one-time-only project. It will grow and need to be adjusted over time. That is a good thing because it indicates your own growth is occurring, which is also positive.
