New Year, New You: Creating a Vision for 2024

New Year’s resolutions just don’t work, they never really did for me and it took a long time to figure that out. First of all, how to set goals is often not taught effectively and therefore resolutions are similar, or actually worse.

Things are chosen sometimes in the moment or because of feeling pressure to choose something, so resolution are often repeated, such as: make more money or lose 10lbs or go to the gym every day. These ideas start off feeling good, and your intentions are good too. However they aren’t likely to produce lasting change. In a short amount of time people will revert back to where they were.

It doesn’t have to be that way!

Creating a Vision instead, is so much more exciting and effective. It was this approach that actually changed everything for me and now I teach it. Not everyone is ready for this approach, when they are, it can be a game changer. Shifting focus away from resolutions and towards a Vision can be so much more uplifting, inspiring and motivating. Wouldn’t you love to start your New Year that way.

Creating a Vision is like a big picture approach to how you want your life to look or how you want it to be in 2024. During the year and beyond. It’s often difficult to do this on your own, because of the sticky tendency to think small or to reduce the ideas that come to you down into smaller more digestible chunks. That too doesn’t have to stay that way.

So having someone to guide you and hold you accountable is necessary.

In my previous article, on doing a year-end review, it actually sets you up beautifully for this next step.

You can read that article here: Do a Year-End Review and Skip the New Year’s Resolutions

The best place to start is where is it that you are going? Where do you want to go from here? And see what comes to mind for you.

Another great question to ask yourself is what do you want 2024 to be like? This can pertain to anything that you want and it can be different for different people and that’s all part of it.

I like to look at every area of my life, including where it is that I want to grow. This is a high value for me, growth and being in a growth mindset. It may not be for you, so you get to include what is important to you.

It is critical to take a look at every area of your life when you are doing this. The areas you used to review the past year can be used again to look ahead, and you do have the opportunity to add to them. Some that I like to start with are relationships, business, finances, recreation, personal growth. There may be others for you, which makes this exercise so unique, it can be customized to the individual as well as to the business.

Your business or career is an important consideration here and you want to be sure to include all the areas pertaining to it. How do you want the business to grow this year?

This growth can be in revenue or income and it doesn’t have to be. Maybe it’s in marketing for you, or in expanding your team or it can be in the types of clients you go after. It’s really up to you.

Looking ahead into the next year is about more than improvement and using a format of creating a Vision actually provides a quality and expansive framework for that.

Employees now want more impact and development from their careers. I’d say the same is true for entrepreneurs and other professionals, it’s part of the reason why they get started. All of you want to experience making an impact from your daily work, you also want to be able to develop in your careers. This is a fabulous way to get you off to an amazing start in the New Year.

It isn’t always easy to do on your own, because of this prevalent propensity to stay small, to stay in your comfort zone, rather than break out of the box that they’ve been living in. The brain is wired for this, and yet in order to get to where you want to go, you’re going to need to break through that and that will require assistance!
