Organ Donor Awareness

April Is Organ Donor Awareness Month…

It’s a topic close to my heart – what about for you?

When it first happened for my son, I knew nothing about it. No one I knew of had ever had one or even heard about it. I think that made it more uncomfortable for me.

Not so today. It touches everyone in some way. You either have had one, or you know someone who has had one. Or you know someone who has donated their organs, or perhaps you have done so.

Yet only 60% of the population are registered donors. These numbers are much higher than they have been in recent years, which is great new. There’s still work to be done. And I wanted to do my part.

Organ donation is a beautiful loving gift. It saves lives, it also transforms lives of all those involved.

I am sure there are reasons why someone would not be a registered donor. Religion, fear, maybe even lack of knowledge. I wonder if it is something that most people just don’t talk about until they have to, and then in that moment it is just too hard. I get it.

That could change today. I’m not here to influence you or push you, just to start the conversation, to share information and to be a resource. So you can decide for yourself and with your family.

* Currently there are 112,000+ on the organ transplant list.

* 17,000 of them are awaiting a liver

* 20 people die each day waiting.

* Every 10 minutes another person is added to the list

CTA.. are you are registered donor or any questions about it?
