What is inspiring about the life of Kobe

What about the life of Kobe Bryant did I find inspiring?

Is it more of the suddenness of his passing or the greatness of his life that gets you? When you first saw the news on the screen, what was it? Greatness. Passing. Gone.

What about the life of Kobe was inspiring?

He was not afraid. He had no fear. I believe, therefore, he was not afraid to die. It has been said in interviews that he would say he would die young. Perhaps he knew, perhaps it was a desire. He was not afraid to die. Look at the quote from yesterday. All part of the natural cycle, and there is beauty in that.

Exactly. If you choose to see it that way. Can you choose Beauty?

He was willing to do what most people aren’t. won’t. He joined the NBA straight out of high school. Wow. Think about that. 17 years old. Joined the NBA. And he thrived. Not many people would have taken that jump, an unusual chance. Those that are willing to do what others are not, sets you apart.

We, as a society, have this image of death as sad and terrible, and when it is so sudden I think that makes it harder for people in their minds as they try to make sense of it. It is the natural progression of life, he says, there is beauty in that.

If you choose to see it that way.

Interestingly, there is a helicopter flying overhead, as I write this. Its not unusual, it’s a story for another day.

His work ethic was incredible. Obstacles, injuries did not stop him, in fact they actually propelled him to keep going. He was known as relentless, which I love. Because it can be so easy to stop! When things get hard, it can be easy to stop but he kept going. He was not afraid to work through things and get better. This is how I strive to be and we need examples of that.

Whether you love him or hate him, agree with him or not, that is not the point here. There is much we can learn from him.

He admits, there is beauty in the struggle. Exactly! If you choose to see it that way. This was actually his way, and his death is no different. There is beauty in it and he would want us to look for it.

Often times, we see death through a lens of tragedy or sadness, I think he would want us to see the beauty in it as well. It is the view I have taken, since my son and my father both have died, within 6 weeks of each other and the immense beauty is such a gift.

RIP Kobe. And continue to light up the Universe, from your new home.
