An Open Letter to LinkedIn

I posted this open letter on my LinkedIn profile to share my experience with receiving LI connections and the genuine attempts to connect with more people, and the experience I’ve been having, in hopes of improving these connections and our businesses.

Dear Fellow LinkedIn Members, Connections and Friends,

I have been personally reaching out to my new connections on LinkedIn in order to have a meeting via phone or zoom and the responses have been interesting, so I’m writing this letter.

Let me start by saying I value all of my connections, both old and new, some of you are friends I’ve known for a while, and I value that too.

My intention is to connect with as many of you and your businesses as I can in order to yes, see if my coaching services is of interest to you. That is not the only reason. I can tell pretty quickly if my services are something the other person needs or wants.

I am also looking to genuinely connect and to learn more about you and your business. Some of you have shown interest and we’ve had some great conversations, including some connections made.

Automatically so many of you say, “I’m not interested in your services.” Okay. Do you even know what they really are, I want to ask them, and don’t get the chance.

More importantly, I want to ask them “Are you interested in yours?” That’s right, are you interested in your services or products?

You see, if I reach out to you to see if we can work together, it is more than just to sell you something.

It is also to see what it is that you might need, who I might be able to connect you with and… how my company or that of my friends or fellow entrepreneurs might be needing your services.

So few of you give yourself that chance, that opportunity.

I am really good at making connections. I’ve been told this for years, most of my adult and work life. I may know of someone who needs what you are doing and/or selling. I cannot refer them to you if I don’t know you or what you do.

The best way to do that is to hop on a call, 30 minutes max, I can offer you input on a problem or challenge you’re facing in your business. I’ve been working with businesses for over 14 years, this is valuable. I can agree that you’re doing well and congratulate you. I can also ask what do you need in your business right now? These are just a few examples.

People automatically say they are not interested or they reply with a sales pitch themselves, which is a bit out of place.

I can also place a recommendation on your profile to help you grow your network. I can also connect you with other LI members who might need your services, or who are holding an event you might be interested in, or a sponsorship opportunity you might need, all of which are of benefit to your business and to all of us.

Say you’ve just started a business, and you don’t really know the tools to use to get clients, or you’re not even sure where to start, I can help you with that or I can connect you with someone else who can.

Wouldn’t that be worth a call to talk about. To talk about your business, your services and growing them too? If you’re interested in booking a call to chat, leave a comment below.

Sincerely,

Maureen
